Hi, I’m Jo.
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a Master's Degree in this field (level 7). I'm a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), adhering to all ethical guidelines.
I volunteered for many years with a bereavement charity, which led me to train as a counsellor. I previously worked as a mental health nurse (RMN) within the NHS and as a mental health mentor at Nottingham University and have worked with a variety of problems in these positions. I believe passionately in the benefits of working together with a counsellor/psychotherapist to move you to the place you would like to be in your life.
I am trained integratively which means I will adapt the therapy to your needs. My training includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, Bereavement Care, Transactional Analysis and Compassion Focused Therapy.
I am also trained in Person Centred Counselling which I believe is the bedrock of all therapies. In the Person Centred approach there is no hierarchy between therapist and client; the therapist expresses empathy, genuineness and is non-judgemental at all times.
I am experienced in working with trauma, and use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing if deemed appropriate). In addition I am trained in working with couples; this could be, but is not exclusive to, romantic relationships and can include other relationships, for example supporting a breakdown in an adult parent and child relationship.
I will always offer a warm welcome, and a safe and confidential space for each client and believe counselling and psychotherapy can lead us to self-acceptance, self-discovery and contentment. I hope to help you recognise your inner strengths and your own potential to work with any issues you are experiencing.
